Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Two suspected motorcycle robbers have been lynched by boda boda riders in Mukono district.

The suspects who were travelling on a numberless motorcycle were reportedly trailed from Bunamwaya and rounded up at Sunshire fuel station in Kirangira, Nama sub-county where they had gone to make a fuel refill at around 10 am.

Police led by Michel Wandulu, the Mukono Police Division Officer-in-Charge of Operations sealed off the scene before taking the bodies to the city mortuary, while the numberless motorcycle on which the deceased persons were riding was taken by the group that was pursuing them.

Steven Ddamulira, a motorcyclist who stages at Wantoni trading centre says that although the attacked persons were unknown to them, they have previously lost colleagues to robbers. He however appeals to police to investigate the matter since none of the boda boda riders that trailed the suspects is known to their community.

Denis Wakabi, a victim of boda boda thefts says that he has now stayed at home for a year and six months now after losing his motorcycle. Wakabi almost lost his life after he was hit strongly on the head by a supposed client he was taking to Lugazi town from Mbalala in Mukono district.

Wandulu has appealed to residents and boda boda riders to avoid mob justice since it can lead to the death of innocent people. He has also advised that once suspects are killed on the spot, it sometimes sabotages investigations and efforts to recover stolen items.

The recent police report (2020) cited out Nansana Division followed by Kawempe Division and Mukono Division with the most registered numbers of motorcycle theft. Mukono registered 93 cases.
