UCU embarks on renovation of theological collage gate, campus beautification

The status of Bishop Tucker gate, UCU’s oldest gate.

Mukono, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda Christian University-UCU has embarked on renovating Bishop Tucker Theological collage old main gate. It shall bear the university emblem and get a general facelift.

The gate used to serve as the main entrance for the Anglican theological institution that used to train religious leaders in the country before it was expanded to turn into a university that caters for several academic disciplines.

With the new developments that have been emerging at the university, a new gate was constructed and considered as the main gate however the current Vice Chancellor Dr Aaron Mushengyezi says the old gate (Bishop Tucker gate) portrays the glory and genesis of UCU but it has been ignored over years.

He believes that the entrance bears blessings from the founding fathers who started the institution. The gate is located in the face of UCU’s Bishop Tucker building the oldest block at Mukono campus that accommodates the top administrative office and the scriptural union.

The renovation is part of other developments that shall follow under the development partnership with Prime media network. Mushengyezi says the university entered into a partnership to beautify the campus starting this February.

Other developments shall include a food court with cafeteria, commercial block housing restaurants and other groceries, water fountain, walk ways, a good parking area for about 144 vehicles, kiosks providing internet services, information inquiry and internet protocol data center. The entire project shall consume 4billion shillings.

The university has been managing its canteens in containers that carry goods and vehicles could park along the pathways and grass due to lack of a well-designed parking yard for vehicles.

The Executive Director of Prime Media Brutus Kagingo says such projects shall be extended to other campuses in line with their core values. He says that they shall not use their platforms to promote and advertise clients whose products and services contradicts the value of UCU.

John Amanya a second year student says the new plan shall make their university shine and attract more students in addition  creating a conducive learning environment.
