KAMPALA | Xinhua | A total of 1,800 soldiers from the Central African Republic (CAR) have arrived in Uganda for military training as part of ongoing efforts to build the CAR army’s capacity, a Ugandan military spokesperson said Tuesday.
Maj. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, Uganda’s military spokesperson, told Xinhua by telephone that the recruits will undergo intensive basic training and intelligence-gathering exercises over a period of nine to 12 months.
He said the training program is part of a 2024 bilateral agreement aimed at professionalizing the CAR’s armed forces and strengthening their ability to combat insecurity, promote peace and enhance regional stability.
“Yes, I can confirm the CAR troops are in the country. We are going to train CAR soldiers following the memorandum of understanding we signed with them last year,” Kulayigye said.
Uganda maintains a strategic defense partnership with the CAR, particularly in efforts to combat the Lord’s Resistance Army, a Ugandan rebel group that has long operated in the country. ■
Uganda deserves to train more UPDF in central Africa republic because once the continent become peaceful, tourism and tourism and business will boom in east Africa smoothly.
What’s needed to be part of this training if I would wish to join. However corruption has been too much no matter in the advert there was a clear statement that it’s for free. There was too much “A”s and “O”s more especially at Kololo recruitment ground,l mean as in the names with A and O, they were more considered why? Let’s try to be fair on ground next time
An army and leadership without a clear and correct ideological foundation can only be a recipe for war. Look at Sudan for example. Same people, different ideological framework, many robotic soldiers totting guns and killing innocent civilians and destroying a rich country.
More that soldiers, Africa needs a unifying ideology beyond christianity islamism, capitalism and communism. Uganda has survived because of M7 christian humanism, laissez-faire capitalism, a sense of moral correctness tempered with a correct historical prognosis of the future. That amalgam is Musevenism in short. But he will die as we all do without imparting it to all of Africa. He ought to be EAC president in a much delayed EAC federation, but he wants to be Ugandan president until death. What a waste!
