Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredojević Micho says they are targeting a maximum of six points in their doubleheader against Rwanda in the FIFA 2022 Qatar World Cup Qualifiers.
Uganda Cranes depart for Kigali this evening ahead of their clash with Amavubi stars on Oct 7th 2021 at Nyamirambo stadium. The team received a boost with the arrival of Timothy Denis Awany, Fahad Bayo and Mustafa Kizza who joined the camp at Cranes paradise hotel in Kisaasi.
Speaking at a press conference at FUFA House in Mengo, the Uganda Cranes head Coach Micho, said he intends to field a team of senior and junior players to stop Rwanda.
The Serbian Coach also noted after the Mali tie, both his foreign and local-based players put themselves in a competitive mode and believes that they have gone through sufficient preparations in their respective teams for the Rwanda game.
Khalid Aucho, the new Uganda Cranes captain who plays for Yanga FC in Tanzania, said that he believes his fellow players are eager to win the game, adding that all players have been in good form since they joined the camp.
The captain also said that the team will concentrate on winning the two clashes to secure the top position of the group.
Uganda Cranes will face Amavubi Stars without team captain, Emmanuel Okwi whom coach Micho, says isn’t fit for the tie due to lack of a club to play competitive football. The team will all miss experienced defender Murushid Juuko who received marching orders in Uganda’s encounter against Mali.
Defenders including Timothy Awany and Enock Walusimbi will have to step up if they are to stop a resilient side in Rwanda. In the same development, the Cranes will also need to raise their spirits high if they are to solve the goal drought equation.
In the last two games against Mali and Kenya, Uganda failed to score a single goal with tactician Micho opting for a more defensive approach in the two ties. The Cranes is currently third in Group E with two points after two goalless draws against Kenya and Mali.
Rwanda is the last in the group with 1 point after drawing against Kenya and falling to Mali.
