Port Elizabeth, South Africa | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda’s Crested Cranes registered a 5-1 win against Eswatini in their second Group C match Sunday at the on-going COSAFA Women’s Championship.
Joan Nabirye and Riticia Nabbosa gave Uganda Crested Cranes a 2-0 half time lead at the Madibaz Stadium, Nelson Mandela Bay in Port Elizabeth.
The Eswatini team regrouped in the second half and pulled a goal back through Celiwe Thandazile Nkambule after 56 minutes. But Uganda fought back strongly to make it 3-1 with Sandra Nabweteme scoring on 62 minutes.
Second half substitute Hasifah Nassuna later picked a brace to make sure Uganda Crested Cranes picked a comfortable victory.Uganda Crested Cranes coach George William Lutalo was happy with the performance of his players.
The Uganda Crested Cranes started the tournament with a goalless draw against Namibia on September 30th. They will complete their Group C match against Zambia on October 5th.
Zambia who face Zimbabwe in their second Group C match later today started the tournament with a 5-0 thumping of Eswatini.
Already Tanzania who picked their second Group B win yesterday have qualified for the semi finals, while another team from the Council of east and central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Zone South Sudan lost their second match on Saturday.
While Tanzania stopped Zimbabwe 3-0 and picked another 2-0 win against Botswana yesterday, the Bright Starlets of South Sudan lost 7-0 to Botswana in their opening match and lost 2-1 to Zimbabwe on Saturday.
The tournament which has attracted 12 teams will climax on October 9th.
