Uganda electricity tariffs to drop October to December

Uganda’s Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) has announced new electricity end user tariffs with a reduction, implying that consumers in all categories will pay less in the fourth quarter October to December 2016.

According to a statement from ERA, the reduction in the tariffs is as a result of a reduction in the international fuel prices, a change in the generation mix and the change in the US dollar exchange rate.

The tariff schedule  for the period October to December 2016 indicates domestic consumers will pay sh623.6 per unit from sh626.0 in the previous quarter, representing a 0.4% reduction.

Commercial consumers will pay sh565.1 per unit (from sh566.9 in the third quarter), representing a 0.3% reduction. Medium industrial consumers will pay sh523.0 per unit (from sh524.7 in the previous quarter), representing a 0.3% reduction. Large industrial consumers will pay sh347.1 (from sh 349.5 in the last quarter), representing a 0.7% reduction.

The Street Lights category will be charged sh606.2 (from sh608.0 in quarter three), which represents a 0.3% tariff reduction.
