KAMPALA, Uganda | Xinhua | Uganda Premier League reigning champions SC Villa have terminated their contract with the Serbian head coach Dusan Stojanovic.
William Nkemba, the SC Villa chief executive officer announced on Saturday that the club had parted ways with Stojanovic. “The club wishes Dusan well in his next endeavours, and thanks him for his services,” said Nkemba.
“Dusan leaves with our sincerest appreciation for steering the club through a very tough season to its 17 League championship,” he added.
The club also announced that former Ugandan International Morley Byekwaso, who has been the assistant, will now take charge as the interim head coach.
Byekwaso is not new to coaching in Uganda, where he coached the U-20 team that came out second in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations held in Mauritania 2021, and also guided the U-20 team to win a silver medal in the African Games held early this year in Ghana.
On his side, Stojanovic who only joined the club last year, guided Villa to winning the 2023/2024 Uganda Premier League title again in 20 years.
He was also in charge of the team in their recent participation in the regional CECAFA Dar Port Kagame Cup in Tanzania, where they failed to qualify for the knockout stage after picking one win and drawing twice.
The Ugandan Premier League reigning champions are now preparing for the first-round preliminary round of the 2024/2025 CAF Champions League where they will face Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC over two legs. ■
