Uganda set to host 2022 Africa Zone IV Golf Championship

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda will host the 2022 Africa Zone IV Golf Championship scheduled for July 14-16 at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa.

The championship will attract titleholders Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Burundi.

Joseph Bagabo, the treasurer of the Uganda Golf Union, told Xinhua in an interview on Tuesday that they are well-prepared to host a successful regional tournament.

“We have all the facilities in place and some teams have already arrived in the country ready for action,” added Bagabo.

The championship returns after a two-year absence caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Uganda won the inaugural edition in 2018 hosted in Kenya and successfully defended the title in 2019 in Burundi.

Uganda’s head coach Flavia Namakula said the team has prepared well and is ready to defend the title playing at home. “We know all the other teams will be all out to try and win the title. But we are more than determined to retain the title,” said Namakula.

“We are in Uganda to win the title, nothing else. We have good and experienced players who are capable of winning the title,” said a confident Ochola.
