Uganda U-20 team routs Kenya 7-2 in World Cup qualifier

Nairobi, Kenya | THE INDEPENDENT | Two goals each from lead striker Juliet Nalukenge and Sumaya Komuntale gave Uganda’s Under 20 women’s team a resounding 7-2 victory over hosts Kenya at Nyayo stadium, Nairobi on Saturday afternoon.

Other goals came from Margaret Kunihira, captain Fauzia Najjemba and Shamira Nalugya in the first leg of the first round of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup 2022 Qualifiers.

Uganda got its first goal as early as the second minute of the game through Nalukenge before Kunihira added the second one, eighteen minutes later, Nalukenge also scored another goal before halftime.

Najjemba, Nalugya, Komuntale also scored a goal each to give Uganda a 6-0 lead in the first half.

In the second half, Kenya tried to fight back but only managed to score two goals before Komuntale scored another one for Uganda to end the game 7-2.

Team coach, Ayubu Khalifa said he didn’t expect to score many goals although he was confident of victory.

The second leg will be played on 8th October in Kampala and the winner will face either South Africa or Mozambique.
