“Its our first championship and its being monitored closely by both CAF and FIFA” said Nicholas Musonye, secretary general of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA).

“We intend to host the CECAFA U-17 Boys and CECAFA Women’s tournaments soon so that the best of the FUFA Juniors League and the FUFA Women Elite League are put to international test. We intend to register the Women National football team in CAF and FIFA competitions in 2017,” Magogo said last year.
The 10 day tournament will feature Kenya, Rwanda, Zanzibar, Burundi, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Uganda.
The tournament was launched on August 29 2016 at Uganda’s football headquarters at FUFA House, Mengo in Kampala. FUFA president Magogo outlined plans to raise the level of Uganda’s women on the football map.
