KAMPALA, Uganda | Xinhua | Uganda has withdrawn from the qualifiers of the 2024 CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations.
The draw with 14 teams was conducted last month by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).
Edgar Watson Suubi, CEO of the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA), confirmed to Xinhua on Thursday that they had withdrawn in order to focus on specific competitions.
“Although we had entered the team and had been drawn in the fixture, we realized that we have so many engagements and decided we concentrate well on a few,” Suubi told Xinhua.
Uganda had previously featured in the 2021 tournament, finishing fourth after losing 5-3 to Morocco in the play-off final.
“It is unfortunate that we have had to withdraw, but we shall always have another chance next time to enter a team and play in the qualifiers and make it to a CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations,” added Suubi.
Uganda had been set to face Tanzania in the first round of the qualifiers slated to take place between July 19 and 28. ■
