Ugandan girls favourites in World Championships U-20 steeplechase final

Lima, Peru | THE INDEPENDENT & IAAF | Five Ugandan teenagers will take to the track at World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima today as the country seeks to add to their two bronze medals won on day 1 of action.

Keneth Kiprop, 19 grabbbed bronze in the 5000m final on Tuesday while Charity Cherop, just 17 years old, took a similar medal in the 12-and-a-half laps race in the Peruvian capital.

Favourites to add to Uganda’s medal tally tonight (1.37am) are Nancy Chepkwurui (qualified with 9:49.06) and Loice Chekwemoi (10:01.85) in the 3000m Steeplechase race.

Also in action soon after the 3000m women’s steeplechase final, will be Herbet Kibet and Titus Musau in the boys 3000m flat race.

Bentalin Yeko and Keziah Chebet will however be the first Ugandans in action, when the heats of the 3000m flat race start at 9pm.

Lima is hosting the World Athletics U20 Championships for the first time, bringing together more than 1,700 athletes and 130 teams from around the world.
