Uganda’s Express FC storms CECAFA Kagame Cup final

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania | THE INDEPENDENT | Express FC brushed aside Zanzibari side KMKM 2-1 to storm the CECAFA Kagame Cup final where they are seeking their first ever victory.

A classic free kick from Muzamiru Mutyaba in normal time, then an extra time penalty by Erick Kambale secured the victory at the Azam Complex Chamazi in Dar-es-Saalam Tanzania on Tuesday.

The Red Eagles earlier reached the penultimate stage of the club showpiece after topping Group A on 7 points and unbeaten after three matches.

On Saturday Express humbled home side Young Africans SC 3-1 to seal their place in the knockout stage, while KMKM SC also defeated Azam FC 3-2 in a Group B match.

Express FC are playing at the CECAFA Kagame Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1995, scoring five goals in the process. KMKM were making the Kagame Cup semi-finals for the very first time after finishing second in group B.

The second semifinal clash on Wednesday will see Tanzanian side Azam FC take on Nyasa Big Bullets of Malawi in what is expected to be a tough battle.

Azam FC humbled 2019 champions KCCA FC (Uganda) 2-0 in their opening match before stopping Burundi’s Le Messager Ngozi (Burundi) 1-0 in the second game and losing to KMKM  in the final group match.
