Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF has condemned the decision by the United States government to impose financial sanctions against Major. General Abel Kandiho, the Chief of Military Intelligence.

In her brief statement issued on Tuesday, the UPDF Spokesperson, Brigadier Flavia Byekwaso says that they are disappointed that the US could take such a decision without due process.
“As a country and UPDF in particular, a reputable government institution, we are disappointed such a decision could be made by a country we consider friendly, a partner and a great ally, without due process and in total disregard of the principle of fair hearing coupled with failure to make necessary consultations,” reads the statement.
She reveals that they will be seeking clarification from the US government to determine the way forward.

Those diversionary tactics designed by Rwanda and some anti-Museveni elements in order to create confusion will not stand. We rwandans who have once been arrested by CMI know the truth.
Every deported rwandan from Uganda is forced to claim that he was tortured by CMI. If the sanctions are not politically motivated; America should put Kagame and some RDF officers under sanctions because of their known human rights record which the US choose to ignore due to some unknown reasons.
Advice to H.E Museveni: The aim of those sanctions is to weaken CMI and whatever they stand for; they simply want Gen.Kandiho out. Don’t fall in their trap, the Rwandan government propaganda against Uganda will be exposed. It’s just a matter of time
Torture,disappearance,kidnappings,death threats,intimidations,killings and other forms of human rights abuses; have been used by The government of Rwanda to silence Kagame’s opponents and critics for many years and the USA is aware! Why don’t you put those responsible under sanctions if you really care about our rights? You can fool ugandans but you can’t fool rwandans. Rwandans have been oppressed and are still being oppressed 1000times more than ugandans and none was placed under sanctions for it, that’s why the sanctions against Gen.Kandiho are politically motivated.
