UVA targets hundreds of farmers at Veterinary Scientific Conference due in Mbale

Mbale, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A scientific symposium that is expected to attract local and international experts, will be one of the highlights of the season-ending activities of the Uganda Veterinary Association set for Mbale City in late November and December.

The Uganda Veterinary Association (UVA) together with her partners has started preparation for three days of activities at Mbale Courts View Hotel;  a Farmers engagement and Exhibition, Scientific Symposium and Annual general meeting.

Over 1000 veterinarians, veterinary paraprofessionals, and livestock farmers are expected to attend and UVA will have them trained in new technologies in the livestock sector.  Pre-conference activities will include out reaches to farmers, vaccination of livestock and pets.

“The primary objective of the conference is to offer an opportunity to members of the veterinary fraternity, public and development partners to reflect on and discuss all aspects of veterinary services in an open supportive and intellectually stimulating environment that contribute to national development,” said Dr. Obbo Boniface, General Secretary UVA.

The conference will be held under the theme: A people centered veterinary services for socio-economic transformation.

Outreach programmes are planned ahead of the symposium and exhibition

Dr Obbo invited local and international veterinarians and stakeholders to submit abstracts for presentation at the scientific conference before November 15, 2023.

Expected to submit abstracts for presentation at the scientific conference are central government veterinarians, academia, producers, processors, dealers of veterinary commodities, consumers, policy makers, extension workers, researchers, development partners, financial institutions, society leaders.

Sub-themes to be looked at at the conference includeVeterinary services in a changing policy environment; Diagnostics and Genomics; One Health approach adoption in addressing public health emergencies: -Antimicrobial Resistance and Tick Acaricide Resistance; Animal disease surveillance for preparedness, prediction and planning.
