Kampala, Uganda | JULIUS BUSINGE | Fuel and other lubricants distributor, Vivo Energy Uganda Limited, has expanded its coverage by opening seven new service stations.
The new service stations, which started operations at the end last year, includes; Kakiri, Kira Town, Kyengera, Gulu Highway, Nebbi, Namusera and Lyantonde.
This puts the number of service stations held by Vivo Energy to 140 compared with its closed rival Total that has 128 service stations. The firm sells its fuel products under the shell brand in Uganda and 15 other markets in Africa where it has operations.
This development comes at a time fuel prices are increasing due to increased price of the commodity at the international market, with petrol and diesel now trading at Shs 4,000 and Shs 3,200, up from Sh3, 420 and Shs2,800 per litre in January, respectively.
Vivo’s Managing Director, Gilbert Assi told journalists at Kyengera Service Station, located along Kampala-Masaka Highway on March 23, that the expansion aims at extending their services closer to customers.
“We are not only widening our convenience retail offering but we also continue to bring new innovations across our product range,” Assi said.
He said the pump prices would in future reduce in line with the country’s oil production schedule, other factors constant. Uganda hopes to start its oil production by 2020.
David Mureithi, the executive Vice President for East and South Region for Vivo Energy Group, said Vivo Energy understands that customers not only look for filling up their vehicles with fuel but also looks for quality service.
“…to become Africa’s most respected energy business, it is important that we are accessible to every customer,” Mureithi said.
