Jinja, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Wakiso Giants secured a 1-0 victory against Gaddafi FC at Gaddafi Arena in Jinja City on Saturday. The match drew a moderate crowd as both teams had previously settled for a goalless draw in the initial round. Hassan Ssenyojjo of Wakiso broke the deadlock with a lone goal in the opening minute of the second half, clinching all three points for his team.
Gaddafi’s head coach, David Mutono, expressed that his team had more clear scoring opportunities than the visitors but couldn’t convert them into goals. He highlighted the opponents’ composed demeanor, attributing it to their victory despite relentless pressure in Gaddafi’s 18-yard box.
Mutono emphasized the upcoming training sessions would focus on equipping the squad to secure early goals and maintain aggressive play throughout matches to gain an edge in the Uganda Premier League. In contrast, Wakiso’s head coach, John Luyinda, commended his team’s focus and ability to capitalize on a key opportunity to score.
He praised the significant improvement in their playing style, having lost only one game in their recent appearances. Luyinda revealed their immediate focus on achieving a strong finish in the ongoing season’s first leg. Additionally, plans to reinforce the squad with new players in the January 2024 transfer window were underway, aiming to enhance the team’s performance.
