Walukuba barbarians qualify for Uganda cup semi finals

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Walukuba Barbarians have defeated Busitema University with 109 points against nil to qualify for this week’s Uganda Cup shield semi-finals.

The match was played at the Abel Dhaira memorial stadium, Jinja at the weekend.

The barbarians’ win was aided by team’s second center, Dennis Sekate who scored 30 points and the first center, Dennis Ekendi with 25 points.

Daniel Geno, the Walukuba manager, says that his team was ready to face off with their opponents. “After losing with 10 points against cobs in the main cup, we were more than ready to show off with our opponents and lucky enough we won decisively,” Geno says.

Walukuba will next Saturday face off with home side Jinja Hippos who also won 71 points against Kyambogo University who garnered 3 points at Jinja rugby grounds.

Peter Oringo, Busitema’s first center who doubles as the team’s coach says that the team lacks enough players which contributed to their loss.

“We lost this match with a very big margin partly because our team faces a challenge of shortage of players but I plan on engaging the university administration to recruit more players and a professional coach who will lead our team to better scores in the next tournament,” Oringo says.
