THIS WEEK: Coach Micho quits, interim coaches named
During a press conference held on July29, Uganda Cranes coach Mutin Sredojevic ‘Micho’ announced he is leaving ending weeks of speculation about his resignation. Micho who left over unpaid salary arrears will soon announce his next destination. “It is not easy to be coach of Uganda.
My agent and I had seven days of talks with FUFA but all yielded nothing,” he said. “I have not been allowed to take Uganda to the World Cup. They succeeded to remove me.” He said he has up to nine offers to consider but dispelled allegations that he was moving to Libya as earlier reported by some media houses. Confirming his exit, Football governing body FUFA boss Moses Magago said, “We offered Sredojevic a new improved contract which was double the salary, but he rejected it. I think he was determined to leave.”
He said the coach was demanding them $54,000 in salary and allowances arrears by the time he terminated the contract. Moses Basena and Fred Kajoba have been appointed interim coaches for the national team ahead of the four international matches to be played in August and September.
