THIS WEEK: Justice Kavuma orders hearing of Lubwama’s case, refuses to leave panel
Deputy Chief Justice Stephen Kavuma has ordered that an election petition where a voter in Rubaga South constituency – Habib Buwembo applied to nullify comedian turned politician Kato Lubwama’s election be fixed for
hearing.
The justice who retires soon made the communication on Aug07 when responding to a letter by Buwembo’s lawyer Isaac Semakadde asking him to excuse himself from handling the case.
Semakadde who said the lead judge could be having a grudge on him since he has filed several suits before the Judicial Service Commission and the Chief Justice questioning his appointment to the position of deputy chief justice and his impartiality and therefore this may cost justice to his client – Buwembo. However in his response, Kavuma said Semakadde’s claims are baseless and mere uncertainties that don’t present any genuine concerns necessitating him to leave the panel.
The other judges on the panel include Justice Hellen Obura and Justice Cheborion Barishaki.
