THIS WEEK: One Ugandan dies on pilgrimage to Mecca

Millions of Muslim pilgrims, young and old, circle the Kaaba, Islam’s holiest shrine, at the Grand Mosque in Saudi Arabia’s holy city of Mecca every year.

Kampala, Uganda | THIS WEEK Sheikh Adbdul Busulwa, the chairperson Federation of Hajj Affairs in Uganda on Sept.04 confirmed the death of an 83 year old pilgrim who died in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Hajji Dauda Musoke a resident of Namagoma Wakiso district was found dead in his room. The deceased is said to have performed all the rituals even as he was nursing a cold.

According to his son Muhammad Kawenda with whom he had travelled, the Hajji was complaining of painful legs and was taken to hospital where he was admitted briefly before being discharged the same day.

Muslims pride in dying in Mecca for they believe when one performs pilgrimage they are cleansed of all their misdeeds and therefore dying there means one will directly go to paradise.

Musoke was buried together with 56 other pilgrims at public cemetery in Mecca. Other media reports show that a Ugandan woman suffered a miscarriage. The pilgrims will start returning home next week.
