THIS WEEK: Police issues arrest threats on suspended MPs
Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police Criminal Investigations Directorate publicist Vicent Sekatte has said 13 MPs who were thrown out of parliament during a scuffle that took place on Sept.27 could be arrested on sight after they failed to show up at police offices for questioning.
Sekatte who said their release bonds had been cancelled added that the MPs – Nathan Nandala Mafabi (Budadiri West), William Nzoghu (Busongora North), Barnabas Tinkasimire (Buyaga County), Robert Kyagulanyi (Kyaddondo East), Theodore Ssekikubo (Lwemiyiga County), Joy Atim (Lira District Woman MP), Jonathan Odur (Erute South), Mathias Mpuuga (Masaka Municipality), Gerald Karuhanga (Ntungamo Municipality) and Muhammad Nsereko (Kampala Central) had earlier sent their lawyer Abdu Katuntu to represent them but he too never communicated back to the police when he was asked to make a formal written communication.
By press time, the police hadn’t heard from the legislators who are accused of inciting violence when they engaged in a fight in parliament in a bid to block tabling of motion for constitutional amendment to lift the presidential age limit.
Police should be hunting down murderers who are killing Ugandans every day instead of harassing politicians who are giving Museveni sleepless nights.
