THIS WEEK: Uganda Baati to train 600 roof technicians
Kampala, Uganda |THE INDEPENDENT |Uganda Baati, one of the country’s oldest roofing solutions provider, has unveiled a campaign dubbed the Fundi Club campaign that will see over 600 roof installers trained countrywide.
George Arodi, the country manager said the firm decided to launch this exclusive club targeting roof installers commonly known as fundis, because they are the most reliable experts for any form of domestic roofing.
“Ugandans rely on these installers for technical advice and installation. Therefore, empowering them with modern roofing technics and knowledge will go a long way in ensuring that Ugandans get the best advice and technical input, when it comes to roofing their houses,” he said.
Jayanta Chakravarty, the head of sales & marketing at Uganda Baati, said the campaign will give technical training and support to fundis in Kampala, Mbarara, Arua, Mbale and Gulu. Started in 1964, Uganda Baati is a member of the Safal Group of companies across Africa.

That is the way to go!!
The country – and Africa in general – need lots of skilled artisans and the best people positioned to train these people are industry leaders with a stake in the integrity of the particular craft.
I have argued a million and one times that our continent continues to be backward relative to others mainly because of extreme lack of skills to economically and qualitatively transform what nature has bestowed us with. Also, that when we have made whatever mean effort to train our people, we have focused on higher level engineering/technical activities, distorting the ratios of doers to supervisors to thinkers from the more desirable value of 25:5:1 to some thing ridiculously smaller. The result is that in Africa, we have relatively a lot more talkers and critics than actual quality workers!!
Let me hope other companies take notice and follow suit.
