THIS WEEK: Youth roughs up MP over supporting age limit removal
It was an ugly scene at Kabaka Ronald Mutebi’s coronation anniversary held in Mubende district when a one William Ntege aka Kyuma kyayesu a former journalist at the defunct WBS TV confronted Kassanda South legislator and former police spokesperson Simeo Nsubuga.
He out of the blue grabbed the first time parliamentarian by the neck and drove him out of the queue as he together with other Buganda caucus colleagues moved to greet the king. Ntege who was later arrested told journalists that the legislator was unwelcome at the event because he supports amending article 102 (b) of the constitution to remove the presidential age limit.
However, while the presidential age limit has generated a lot of public interest, a bill about the same has not yet been tabled in parliament although what’s clear is that as it is now, President Museveni who is 73 will not be able to stand come 2021 as the law provides for any one eligible to stand to be between 35 and 75 years of age. There is a general feeling that using the advantage of the NRM being the majority in parliament, they might want to change the constitution to allow him to stand again.
