Kampala, Uganda | GODFREY SSALI | Court bailiff Moses Kirunda has warned that Wilson Kyambadde cannot celebrate his release yet because the storm is not yet over.

Kirunda says Kyambadde is still a civil debtor despite having served six months in prison. He said this is because he has not yet made any payments towards clearing the debt.

Kirunda says the next step is now to attach Kyambadde’ s property in order to recover the said monies.

Kyambadde is a former Kampala mayoral contestant on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket. He is husband of Trade Minister Ameila Kyambadde.

On July 10, 2017 Kyambadde was arrested by Kirunda from Old Kampala as he was travelling for burial.

He was then produced before the High Court’s Execution Division Deputy Registrar Flavia Nassuna Matovu, to show cause why he shouldn’t be imprisoned for failure to pay a debt of 1.1billion shillings, an explanation he failed to give and he was sent to Luzira Civil Prison.

The money arose from a judgment of the Commercial court, which he neglected to respect by paying a one  Amdan Khan whom he conned in 2012  under the guise of selling him a building at Nasser road in Kampala city.

According to Khan, in 2012, Kyambadde approached him with a forged letter from State house, claiming that President Yoweri Museveni had given him a house, and was selling it. He (Khan) offered to buy it and gave US$300,000 as payment.

However, he later realised that the house was non-existent and asked for a refund, but Kyambadde kept dodging him. After several failed demands, Khan petitioned court to help him recover his money.

Since his imprisonment, Amdan Khan has been paying a daily fee of Sh3000 to cater for Kyambadde’s meals for the six months he has spent in jail.
