Doha, Qatar | THE INDEPENDENT | Saudi Arabia produced one of the biggest shocks of the World Cup by beating a Messi led Argentina 2-1 Tuesday.
Minutes after Al Shehri had equalised, Al Dawsari grabbed the second. Saudi Arabia are coached by Herve Renard who coached Zambia previously to African Nations Cup glory in 2012, before repeating the feat with Ivory Coast in 2015.
The result brings an end a long undefeated run for Argentina. Argentina are third in the world rankings, while Saudi Arabia are 51st.

Lionel Scaloni’s men were undefeated in their past 35 games, a sequence that includes the 2021 Copa America final against Brazil. They were just two games shy of the record for the longest run of international matches without defeat, currently held by Italy.
Messi is playing in his fifth World Cup, having appeared on football’s biggest stage for the first time at the 2006 tournament in Germany.
The closest he has come to lifting the Jules Rimet trophy was in 2014 when Argentina lost the final against Germany following an extra-time goal from Mario Goetze.
