Kampala, Uganda | PATRICIA AKANKWATSA | YOTV Channels has unveiled a new state-of-the-art redesigned video streaming app. The new app expands its current offering from a few options to a large variety of live and video-on-demand content covering over 60 live TV channels, over 50 live radio stations, over 140 artists and comedians, music, over 2000 movies and so much more.
Launched in February 2020 right in the wake of the COVID-19 global pandemic phenomenon while many companies collapsed due to the pandemic challenges, YOTV Channels weathered that storm and has grown from strength to strength.
While speaking at the unveiling event on July 29th, Aggrey Mugisha the YOTV Channels Chief Executive Officer said that the YOTV app now has the largest collection of content that includes movies, live TV, live Radio, Music, Comedy, Motivational podcasts, Kids entertainment and much more.
“Our local video-on-demand options are unrivalled. We couldn’t have done all this without our great partner MTN and of course our brilliant content creators. We are thus excited to engage with more content creators to walk with us on this journey including musicians, filmmakers, comedians, and others,” he said.
The redesigned app has new products including; Bolingo Extra which is all about Ugandan Music, Comedy & Reality Shows. Muto, a product designed for Kids’ edutainment (a creative mix of education and entertainment). Kibanda Express a Ugandan movie platform has been redesigned and given a better user interface and user experience. A new channel eMikolo (that showcases captivating events for the Ugandan audience) has also been introduced.
Susan Kayemba, the MTN Uganda Senior Manager for Digital services said that MTN’s partnership with YOTV is hinged on MTN’s mission to champion local content consumption by offering clients a seamless yet convenient and affordable platform.
“The potential of YOTV channels to take local content to the world is undebatable. With the newly unveiled products, we are optimistic that more people will enjoy more Ugandan content. As MTN, we are here to support Ugandan Innovations and YOTV is the epitome of this” said Kayemba.
The launch of the new YOTV Channels app follows many months of hard work and considerable investment that has gone into the development of new products and improved customer experience.
This has involved the setup of a dedicated data centre which has boosted the capacity for our customers to rewind and catch up on missed live content up to 4 days in the past while being able to record unlimited future content. The data centre has also expanded concurrent usage capacity on the app which creates a smoother experience for users.
The MTN and YOTV partnership is underpinned by MTN’s commitment to leading digital innovations for Africa’s progress as enshrined in its Ambition 2025.
